What are the Benefits of Home Based ABA Therapy
In-home ABA therapy provides children with autism the opportunity to learn and practice essential skills in the environment where they feel most comfortable and spend the majority of their time. Unlike centre-based therapy, sessions take place within the child’s natural routines, allowing therapists to teach communication, social interaction, self-care, play, and daily living skills in meaningful, real-life situations. This approach helps children generalize newly learned skills more effectively, making it easier to apply them during everyday activities with parents, siblings, and caregivers.
Another significant advantage of home-based ABA therapy is the strong involvement of families throughout the intervention process. Parents and caregivers receive hands-on coaching from experienced behaviour therapists and Board Certified Behaviour Analysts (BCBAs), giving them practical strategies they can use outside of scheduled therapy sessions. This consistent support helps reinforce learning, promotes faster progress, and builds confidence for the entire family.
In-home therapy also offers a personalized and flexible approach that can address behaviours and challenges as they naturally occur. Therapists can work on skills such as following morning and bedtime routines, toileting, mealtime behaviours, homework, household responsibilities, and community readiness in the settings where these skills are needed most. By focusing on each child’s unique goals and daily experiences, therapy becomes highly relevant and meaningful.
For families in Aurora, Ontario and throughout York Region, in-home ABA therapy with Nexus ABA Therapy provides convenient, evidence-based support that reduces travel time while delivering individualized care. Our family-centred approach empowers children with autism to develop greater independence, improve communication and social skills, and achieve meaningful progress that extends beyond therapy sessions into everyday life.
Frequently Asked Questions About ABA Therapy
What is ABA therapy?
ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) therapy is an evidence-based approach that helps children with autism build meaningful skills — from communication and social interaction to independence and emotional regulation. ABA uses positive reinforcement and data-driven strategies to teach and strengthen helpful behaviors.
How does ABA therapy help children with autism?
ABA therapy breaks complex skills into small, manageable steps and teaches them in ways that make sense for each child. Over time, these small successes add up to big changes — helping children communicate better, learn new routines, and gain confidence.
Is ABA therapy evidence-based?
How do you measure progress and keep us informed?
What does home-based ABA therapy look like?
A trained therapist comes to your home to work one-on-one with your child using fun, engaging activities designed around their goals. Sessions may take place at the kitchen table, in the playroom, or even outside — wherever your child learns best.
What are the benefits of home-based therapy?
Home-based therapy allows your child to learn in their most comfortable environment. It also helps parents and caregivers stay involved and easily integrate new skills into everyday routines.
Do I need to prepare anything at home?
Can you coordinate with our school or other providers?
Yes. With your consent, we collaborate with teachers, speech-language pathologists, and occupational therapists to align targets and reduce duplication. We can share strategies for IEP goals, recommend class-wide supports, and help plan transitions, ensuring your child experiences consistent expectations, shared language, and steady generalization across settings.
Who will work with my child?
Your child’s therapy team includes a Clinical Supvisor / Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and Supervised Instructor Therapists. The BCBA designs your child’s individualized plan, and the Supervised Instructor Therapist provides day-to-day therapy sessions under the BCBA’s supervision.
How qualified are your therapists?
All our ABA Clinical Supervisors are Registered Behaviour Analysts and members of the College of Pscyhologista and Behaviour Analysts of Ontartio CBPAO.
Will my child have the same therapist each session?
Yes, consistency helps children feel comfortable and promotes steady progress.
Can we choose session times that fit our schedule?
Absolutely. We’ll work with your family to create a schedule that fits your routines and availability.
How often will my child receive sessions, and how long are they?
Can therapy happen in other settings?
Yes! We can provide sessions at daycare, school, or in the community, depending on your child’s needs.
